Small Scale Fortification in Nepal

In conjunction with our partner, the Micronutrient Initiative, and funding from the Ansara Family Foundation, PHC is undertaking groundbreaking work in designing a program to broadly implement small scale fortification throughout Nepal. Small scale fortification promises to be one of the most significant break-through technologies in reaching the rural populations where the need is greatest. However, the promise so far is unmet due to the health community's inability to solve the social and economic questions associated with rolling out a broader program.

PHC and MI have set out to design a program that addresses the issues of financing, education, and ongoing maintenance of small scale fortification equipment implemented throughout a rural country. Using simple and straightforward technology developed by MI, we hope to design a program that will not only reach the rural populations of Nepal, but also more broadly provide a template for implementation throughout all rural regions of the developing world.
